I can remember ... I can remember singing this song at my school in Rhodesia. We loved to sing it even though we did not know what all the words meant in English. It? was only later after leaving in South Africa and reading Never a dull moment by Dr Malherbe that I found the whole translation. Now living in USA I listen to this song when I feel homesick.

If you have not I am sure you will find it very interesting how the song became Sarai Marais. Dr Malherbe was a descended from Gideon Malherbe a French Huguenot who landed in the Cape in 1688. The THRASS phonics programme, pioneered by British Educational Psychologist Alan Davies, has already been welcomed as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now Absa, a member of the Barclays Group, are set to announce the corporate sponsorship of THRASS though the THRASS Absa TalkTogether Project. The primary aim of the project is to increase literacy in South Africa, through the improved teaching and learning of English, that will be achieved by partnering universities, primary schools and other organisations. The secondary aim is to provide a platform to celebrate South Africa's eleven national languages, through free interactive software and printable calendar charts.
USAID Helps THRASS British Phonics Programme Expand into Namibia
The THRASS phonics programme, pioneered by British Educational Psychologist Alan Davies, has already enjoyed considerable success in many parts of Africa and is being welcomed as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now, with the help of USAID, and following the recent THRASS Accredited Certificate course in Okahandja, THRASS could soon be implemented in every school in Namibia.
